Production of vortices by scattering particles.

چکیده
We give an action that can be used to describe the production of global vortices in 2+1 dimensions by scattering Nambu-Goldstone bosons. At strong self-coupling the action reduces to scalar QED with particular values of the coupling constants and the production cross-section is explicitly found. We also consider the production of gauged vortices by scattering particles that have an Aharanov-Bohm interaction with the vortex. 2 Solitons occur in a wide range of condensed matter systems and also in many particle physics models. Usually a soliton is treated as an object separate from the particle-like excitations that the theory contains and the connection between particles and solitons remains an unsolved problem. In particular, it is not known how to calculate the crosssection for producing solitons in particle collisions. In this paper, we shall attempt to establish what is at least a partial connection by first considering the production of global vortices in the scattering of Nambu-Goldstone bosons and then considering the production of gauged vortices in the scattering of particles having an Aharanov-Bohm interaction with the vortices. Our analysis only applies to 2+1 dimensions. The simplest model that gives rise to global vortices is described by the action:

Non-Abelian vortices and non-Abelian statistics.
We study the interactions of non-abelian vortices in two spatial dimensions. These interactions have novel features, because the Aharonov-Bohm effect enables a pair of vortices to exchange quantum numbers. The cross section for vortex-vortex scattering is typically a multi-valued function of the scattering angle. There can be an exchange contribution to the vortex-vortex scattering amplitude th...
متن کاملMore on scattering of Chern-Simons vortices.
I derive a general formalism for finding kinetic terms of the effective Lagrangian for slowly moving Chern-Simons vortices. Deformations of fields linear in velocities are taken into account. From the equations they must satisfy I extract the kinetic term in the limit of coincident vortices. For vortices passing one over the other there is locally the right-angle scattering. The method is based...

The Earth’s atmosphere is an environment replete with particles of differ-ent sizes with various refractive indices which affect the light radiation traveling through it. The Mie scattering theory is one of the well-known light scattering techniques ap-plicable to modeling of electromagnetic scattering from tiny atmospheric particles or aerosols floating in the air or within the clouds. Determination of particle size is one of the major needs in the industry and biotechnology. Dynamic light scattering (DLS) is a widely used technique for determining size distribution of spherical particle in nanometer and submicron size range. In this method, there are different algorithms for determining the size and size distribution of particles, which are selected according to the required...
